Goodhi there! I’m pleased to meet another page of your work. Thanks for ideating and continuing it. This page doesn’t quite sustain the suspense of those where we see Lope’s approach, but helps keep track of a potential threat. 1. I was wondering what approach you’d take to the Lope-handler’s name change. I asked myself and then toyed with a few alternatives. The one you chose is fun and feels on-brand. I don’t often encounter terms with “dj” or its sound in positions other than the start or end. 2. Gidj has a fun design, and your art style and skill make it expressive. Is it a mercenary? I love seeing the outfits and devices characters use for work or enjoyment (visored headwear is an appealing bonus,) and don’t see often encounter fully geared creatures in your work. It seems pretty calm and professional so far–to what Treco’s misinformed and [presently] counterproductive leadership allow. That hand positioning in panel 5 amuses me, as does the casual reaction to Treco’s blaring in the last. The floral-lookin’ tool (which seems to have quite a large back supply) is pleasantly puzzling. It creates visual intrigue and makes me wonder even more what Gidj may try to do to our blue intruder. Also, hi, head-shelled yellow guard! >Do any of those appear in your shooter? 3. I wonder if T(d)G actually respects Gidj. It was addressed by name AND hasn’t been insulted yet. 4. Panel 11 has some good visual humor, with the snappy “yell-a-phone” and lavender meep positioned as if emerging from the flower. I like how your panel walls meander or are elsewise “defiant” for gags (like Lope’s protruding snout,) fitting wide or multiple text boxes, or simply by stylistic choice. > Have you ever used irregularly-shaped vertical panels to complement an ascent/fall, very tall building/entity, or point of interest well above or below a character? -Goodlater- Reply
thank you for writing! Gidjmerg is probably a mercenary, although I do not know if it works directly for treco or was simply hired on this and maybe other occasions. i thought of the device as a later or more advanced version of the gun used by the gzdoom dorks I spent too much of 2022 redrawing, separating, and importing, then futilely trying to reduce the lag of. those for the moment fire out little orbs that fly in a spiral configuration and are not terribly devastating. presumably gi[dj[mer[g]’s variant is slightly more powerful, on account of the attached tank and the presumed necessity of protective clothing. or perhap gidjmerg just dresses like that anyway. the design was meant to look scarier than other characters ostensibly employed by treco, but I may have undermined that by how easily and inadvertently lope outwitted biv. the olllllld script for this section didn’t have any obstructions for lope so gidj was never going to be a serious threat, but i wanted it at least to look like one. but then introducing that meant I couldn’t forget about it immediately, either. I fear that I like drawing legs too much to cover them very often. I need a reason. I have thought about incorporating vertical frames but it is difficult in this sort of format because I would need at least two, and more likely three consecutive vertical frames in order for the spacing to work. i have a long-standing problem with wanting to put too many frames on a page. the panel five hand was meant to look like it was lifting the mask to allow the telephone to partially go underneath it but I had difficulty making it look like that was the reason, and by the end was seeingly it more abstractly and forgot to touch up the visuals in a way that supported the original intention. I like to put Js in places where English does not typically use them. They look funny to me. I think it originates to me a long time ago supplementing the Doom game’s existing “GRAYBIG” and “GRAYHUGE” wall graphics with one of my own called “GRAYLARJ.” I don’t think graylarj even exists anymore but i often go to type it when i need something of neutral coloration before being reminded that it isn’t there. eh hopefully I did not miss anything.
