4-16-2024 whoopf i forgot i have a website this week. fortunately it is rarely remembered in general. i have another redrawn old dumb monster to show, when i get around to showing it.
///////////////////////
maybe too much greebling for the amount of content here. i felt mentally drained after the stupid animation and posting it to all the websites, and sought a sketch that I could computer paint over. and that was too much, so I went after this one instead, which was also too much, but since I had already dumped two days on the first one I stuck with this. the stages of production as far back as I have proof of can be viewed over there since I lack the energy to deal with them here. Yes that is an obnoxious paywall site. Somehow or another 11 or 12 still people actually pay me small bits monthly through that, out of pity or whatever other reason, and I will take that. This particular post is “unlocked.” Others are not, more so the people paying money don’t feel slighted than because I think anybody wants to steal them.
I believe it to be the picture that made me realize I was not cut out for water-color painting on physical media. I will sketch and resketch elements for ages to get them in functional balanced positions and next I will be reluctant to place colors that I might change my mind about. And so this lingered unfinished for years but still with blue tape on it as if I thought I might finish it. Obviously I FORGOT most of that when I decided to bring it out for this. At least five years had passed. It was supposed to be straightforward and mindless, and mindless often means irrelevance. but there are also always stupid challenges that need to be thought about that most people would not encounter. what is this thing swimming in? anything i want. but what then IS that any thing?
only THIS part is truly mindless.
obviously, the dope is awful. the dope is scum. nobody is denying that. yet they also will not take steps to do anything about it. the GREEN dope in this picture, does it think i will think it isn’t a bad dope since it isn’t blue? what a horrid dope! just look at those ears! it is JUST as bad as every other dope. i doubt it even KNOWS what color it is! maybe it even thinks it IS a blue dope! but i do not want to say anything appropriately abusive to it since i don’t want it to look at and smile at me.

This here`s me trackback!
it which kindly observes sez:
“maybe too much greebling…”
Art that I find largely and tragically lacks grebes, and you’re one of the few I’ve seen draw one!
I’m anything but aggrieved by the entirety of this picture, and love the use of greaves in the central figure’s regalia. I’m a little surprised those articles don’t feature a bit more in your (presented) art, given how you sometimes accentuate legs.
I hope to regale ya a bit as I appreciate this image.
If I had to oversimplify my perception of this scene, it’d be “stately, eccentric, and sterile.” Yet it simultaneously makes jest of itself through exaggerated pose, creature cast, whimsy, and expression. That neck clutch and bird scepter particularly humor me.
I find that the coloration, weather(?), and abstract overhead geometry effectively and intriguingly remove this image from resembling any time of day we might recognize on Earth.
Assorted highlights:
– The variety of expressions from the various onlookers, who manage to evince different levels of (dis)interest.
– That the decorated central figures are also the most drab-colored. Yet none of their shapes and distinction are lost because of how well you apply tone!
– How unengaged the swimming, burdened beast looks. I wonder how regularly it gets used this way. It took me a while to notice its tail fluke. Of all the creatures present, I feel it’s exhibiting the greatest feat of balance.
– The general array of setting and architecture shapes. I love how the crooked posts and pipes are near a similarly warped skybolt. That pumpkin is so
cozily nestled in its place!
– How the dissimilar colors of the GrnDope, bugler’s gloves, and blue building interior at right make the scene even more vivid.
– The Dope captor’s expression and body language don’t seem hostile, as if to say: “You aren’t welcome, but you can watch.”
> Has the floating, six-barred object above scepter bird in the background taught you anything about itself? I’m quite curious about it.
>[jocial query] Is that bugler distantly related to “Pathetic” snake?
As is often the case, you’ve depicted a scene that I’d probably love to aerially wander and photograph if it and I coexisted. Scaling a neighborhood like this could be fun.
Goodlater!

I am needlessly particular about pictures that are foremost about legs. I like to have them adorned in very particular ways. Armor generally conceals rather than accentuates forms so it rarely factors into those.
I probably SHOULD have made the central figure less drab but I merely neglected to notice how drab it was. Part way through the process I kept thinking that its contrast was lacking however much I tried to improve that, but for whyever reason I did not investigate saturation. I am glad then if you think it works as it is!
there is no point to expending emotions on dopes as they will continue smiling regardless of how they are regarded. I envy those who can deal with them while remaining calm.
If “floating, six-barred object” refers to the orb with protrusions, I believe I initially meant that to be part of the bird’s hat, though I have not had occasion to think about it since depicting it.
the pathetic snake has no known influential relatives that it is on pleasant terms with.
