Why is a regular baseball hat considered fashionable outside of sporting contexts, but I never see any non-baseball-players casually wearing the reinforced plastic version? This is much better defense if somebody throws a pine cone at you trying to knock off your stupid hat.

Probably the same reason fedoras used to be popular to wear when everyone wore a suit coat everywhere! Now people just try to wear a fedora to look cool and forget that it is supposed to go with a suit. Those people need a pine cone thrown at them!

Because in America one can safely assume that it is extremely unlikely that any projectiles will be flung at one’s head.

according to reports, my mother’s head received an airborne projectile yesterday but witnesses could not verify that the bird threw it.
